Harvest Monday: hot off the grill


This week's harvest looks just like last week's, so for a change of pace I present the after photos. All of those cute cherry tomatoes, zucchini and bell peppers photograph even better when you spear 'em and show 'em the grill (wish I could say that I also caught the tuna for the kebabs). Throw in some xmas lights and candles to set the mood and you're in for a memorable evening that cost you nothing more than maybe a bit of smoke in your eyes. The peaches are not from our tree but with any luck, as soon as the suckers start ripening they will meet their fate over the hot coals too. Grilling peaches is not something italians normally do at a grigliata/bbq, but when my husband had his first taste, he became an instant fan of throwing fruit on the fire as an instant dessert.

Instead of the "big soak" that was forecasted, we received what I'd call a tizzle - just enough to tickle the leaves and to stand in the passing drizzle. Linking to Harvest Monday at Daphne's Dandelions.

Those kebabs sure look delicious and even tastier because all the veggies are fresh from your own garden. My mouth is watering looking at the grilled peaches.

Grilled peaches are oh-so-good! I don't just reserve them for dessert, they are great with grilled pork chops. Gorgeous photographs, they look like they came straight out of a glossy food magazine.

I've only ever grilled peaches, but I'm sure that nectarines, pineapples and maybe pears would do nicely. Maybe even figs if they are big enough!

With grilled pork chops? Splendid idea! I think the fruit/meat thing just doesn't come up often enough.

Next year I'd like to do an all-vegetable kebab so I will need to plan out the crops to afford some variety and color. Plus and herb dressing to drizzle over everything.

There really should've been an after-after photo too - both of us stretched out on the folding chairs in total polynesian paralysis! Beer and lots of food will always do it!

Haven't even taken the cover off our BBQ all "Summer"! Grilled peaches are beautiful - especially with some Mascarpone and honey like you did. Have you tried grilled pineapple? Just as nice (though harder to source from your own garden!)

Yes on the pineapple - they make a fruit & tomato salsa even better. If only we could grow them here!

Mmmmmm dinner at your place looks great ! I haven't tried grilled peaches either........I hope our tree produces lots this season so I can try.

Peaches or nectarines, they are both wonderful. We are already missing al fresco dining and summer isn't even officially over yet.

How wonderful does all that look? Fabulous photos of fabulous food. Do you know I've never grilled a peach - something I want to rectify as soon as they come into season here.

Both nectarines and peaches make excellent grilling fare, but even when we don't feel like setting up the grill, we have a cast iron ridged skillet to cook them over the stove. A non-stick skillet works too.
