It was a massacre of the highest level on two fronts and all I can say is that I'm glad we didn't run off somewhere for vacation. [Cue Chopin's Funeral March] Those wretched weekly rainstorms and humidity became too much for the tomatoes, even if I thought I was doing a pretty good job of keeping the problem in check by snipping off infected leaves. I woke up to this full-blown case of blight on my Omar's Lebanese tomatoes and immediately went to work on pulling them out, every single one. I also had to trim heavily on the Cherokee Purple's, San Marzano's and cherry tomatoes, and they're looking naked without much leaf cover. Dammit...gardening can be so cruel. I saved all that I could but have no idea if it'll be worth the trouble. Better luck next year?

Holly - the Cherokee Purple's are naked as a newborn, absolutely no leaf cover at all. There's a good amount of tomatoes on there and I'm waiting for them to ripen up a bit before harvesting. The San Marzano and cherry tomatoes are actually doing okay even if I had to strip them both of a good amount of leaves too.
Kat - you know, the funny thing is that this year I'm not as upset like in the beginning when anything gone wrong would really freak me out. Gardening does make you grow thick skin!
Andrea - aside from the snow, winter is the only time when I get to sit back, relax, read books!, and look forward to gardening in the spring. The blog usually goes into hibernation but this year I just may have a few things going in the cold frame for a bit of experimentation.
